In mathematics and physics, a scalar field associates a scalar value to every point in a space. The scalar may either be a mathematical number or a physical quantity. In this series of works the scalar is represented by the viewer within space and time.

Scalar Field (9a00ff, ff6600, ff0066, fe0000) is composed of two elements, an audio-visual piece and an accompanying PDF booklet. The audio-visual piece represents two forms of oscillation patterns, visual and sonic, while the booklet explores all the possible color pairings. Also included are wallpapers for a variety of devices.

Jon Wozencroft writes:

"Liquid Music was made in 2001, in conjunction with the music Christian Fennesz was developing during that fertile period when the future was still a good idea. The first version – this is it – was premiered during the Touch tour of 2001, the time of Fennesz’s Endless Summer and the steady movement towards Venice (2004). Originally released on USB stick, Liquid Music is now available as a download for the first time.
