Welcome to the Touch Newsletter #207. This weekend, the 19th Spire will take place on 7 September 2019 at Chichester Cathedral. In performance: Claire M Singer, Charles Matthews and The Eternal Chord. The concert was discussed on Late Junction on BBC Radio 3 by Nick Luscombe on 4th September – listen here (@ 1hr 17m, including an unreleased extract of a performance by Philip Jeck as part of Spire live at Union Chapel in 2016.

Singer’s first vinyl release, “Trian”, collects works from her previous albums, “Solas” and ”Fairge” and is released on 4th October 2019. Copies of this gatefold double vinyl, with photography and artwork by Jon Wozencroft, can be pre-ordered at clairemsinger.bandcamp.com

At the end of September, The Tapeworm celebrates its tenth birthday with two London “XWORM” concerts at Iklectik (with Dale Cornish, Zeno van den Broek, Blood Music and more…) and Café OTO (with Jay Glass Dubs, Philip Jeck x Jana Winderen, Simon Fisher Turner, Stefan Goldmann and more…). On Saturday 28 September “Touch presents… Live at Café Oto” will feature performances from Jana Winderen (a rare UK performance), Philip Jeck, Bill Thompson (making his debut) and Mark Van Hoen, freshly over from Los Angeles. 7.9.19 | Spire Live at Chichester Cathedral

Iklectik is proud to present Spire live in the historic surroundings of Chichester Cathedral. Charles Matthews, Claire M Singer and The Eternal Chord, using organ and electronics, continue to push the instrument. Claire M Singer plays the world premier of a new piece, “Dhachaigh“ and other solo works; Charles Matthews performs pieces from Deszo Antallfy-Zsiross, Saint-Saëns, The Robertsbridge Codex, Bach, Muffat & others… all linked by short phrases and drones from The Eternal Chord.

Sides 1 to 3: “Solas” – Solas and Wrangham were recorded by Iain Berryman at Union Chapel, London, 26-27th February 2016 on the organ built by Henry Willis in 1877. Mixed at Bennachie Studios, Aberdeen and EMS Goldsmiths, London. Violin extracts on Eilean from “Land of the Standing Stones” composed and performed by Paul Anderson. Eilean was commissioned by Aberdeenshire Council. Special thanks to Union Chapel, University of Aberdeen and Goldsmiths College.

Side 4: “Fairge” – Recorded by Clare Gallagher at Oude Kerk, Amsterdam, 12th June 2017 on the transept organ built by Ahrend & Brunzema (1965). Fairge was commissioned by Oude Kerk. Special thanks to Jacob Lekkerkerker and all at Oude Kerk.

On Thursday 26 September, The Tapeworm celebrates its tenth birthday at Iklectik — AV performances from Zeno van den Broek and Blood Music, plus a People Like Us short. Splendid trio Tears|Ov premiere their forthcoming album on The Wormhole, ‘A Hopeless Place’. Savage Pencil and Barbara Frost launch their new Bookworm paperback, ‘Cuckoo Head Cool Dog’ with a book singing. Collaborating for the first time, The Howling is a Ken Hollings/Howlround soundclash. To end it all, Dale Cornish will be banging out a ‘Dale on 45’ megamix of his greatest worms.

On Sunday 29 September, The Tapeworm celebrates its tenth birthday at Cafe OTO — Jay Glass Dubs plays live, with a new tape titled ‘Two Devotional Songs for Spaceman 3 in the Style of Love Inc.’ available exclusively on the night. Philip Jeck and Jana Winderen will perform as a duo for the first time ever. Splendid saxophonist Laura Agnusdei premieres her forthcoming album on The Wormhole, ‘Laurisilva’. Marta de Pascalis will blow your mind, while Stefan Goldmann is gonna go all acousmatic. Simon Fisher Turner is playing piano and life-sounds. The interim minstrel will be Zerocrop.

Guerrilla Audio

Guerrilla Audio is a new series of audio raids by Simon Fisher Turner, 64 and still working.

Each audio edit will be posted for 14 days and then removed from the site, although the information about each guerrilla activity will be archived, but without the audio. There will be two postings per month with the first (also featuring Klara Lewis & Rainier Lericolais) on 1st August 2015, so please check in regularly to listen to the latest offering. We are well into the 3rd year and have just posted episode 99…
